Having a baby is one of the most precious moments to a couple. It ties them together forever no matter what happens. But children are a big responsibility, and sometimes trying to have one is a feat in and of itself. If you are unable to get pregnant right off the bat then you will need to know a little bit more about fertility because if you are unable then fertility will come in handy a lot.
One of the major things you need to know when you are trying to have a baby is when you are ovulating. Most of the time when you ovulate it is ten to fourteen days after your period began but this can differ from person to person. You will need to keep an eye on the calendar, and try to map out when you are ovulating and when you are not so that you can tell in advance when you might be ready to have a baby. This will take a month or two to do depending on the person. Most women have a twenty eight day cycle.
One way that a woman can tell when she is ovulating is when she has changes in her cervical mucus. Before a woman ovulates there is an increase in clear and even slippery secretions. Most of the time these secretions will resemble raw egg whites. This is usually when you should try to have a baby. One way you can tell if you are not ovulating, or after your ovulation when the ends of ending up pregnant are very slim, your discharge will be a slimy and often cloudy, and sticky. Sometimes your discharge might vanish completely.
There are pros and cons to watching your mucus secretion. The pros include changes in your secretions are often an accurate sign of fertility so be sure to observe your fluids. One of the cons of watching this is that it might not be completely accurate so doesn’t rely on this entirely.
Tracking your basal temperature is another way that you can figure out if you are ovulating or not. Your basal temperature is the temperature your body is when you first wake up in the morning while still laying down. Do not get up to go get the thermometer so keep it near you somewhere close so you don’t have to sit up. When you are ovulating your basal temperature will go up it might not be a lot if only less than one degree. You are most fertile during the two to three days before your temperature rises, but you can also get pregnant when your basal temperature is up.
You can do several things to maximize you potential for getting pregnant. You should have unprotected sex once a day near the time of your ovulation period. Sperm can live up to three days. You will want to live a healthy lifestyle while you are trying, and don’t forget to take your prenatal pills. You will also want to think about doing some preconception planning.
There are several things that you should not do if you are trying to get pregnant, and they include not to drink or smoke. You do not want to take drugs or any medication without them being Okayed by your health care provider.
If you follow these things then you have a greater chance of getting pregnant, and starting out a family. If you are still having trouble then go to your doctor, and he might be able to refer you to a fertility clinic or some other option that he thinks is best for you.
